Preparing Food And Feeding the homeless
At Vishnu Ashram, seva (selfless service) is a core spiritual value. One of our most meaningful expressions of this service is through preparing and distributing fresh, nourishing vegetarian meals to individuals experiencing homelessness and food insecurity.
Our Commitment
- Four times a month, our volunteers lovingly prepare healthy, home-cooked meals in the ashram’s kitchen.
- Meals include balanced, vegetarian dishes such as rice, lentils, seasonal vegetables, chapati, fruit and water.
- We personally distribute the food to local encampments and shelters, offering not just nourishment for the body, but dignity, warmth, and human connection.
Why We Do It?
- Hunger and homelessness continue to affect thousandsin the Inland Empire region.
- Our mission is to serve without judgment and create a sense of spiritual connection, compassion, and community for all.
- For many recipients, the ashram’s food is not just a meal—it’s a reminder that they are seen, valued, and cared for.
How it Works?
- Food Prep: Ashram residents and volunteers gather in our kitchen to cook and pack meals with care and cleanliness.
- Distribution: The meals are delivered directly to unhoused communities, parks, and street corners by ashram team members.
- Frequency: 3-4 times per month, based on community need and available resources.
